How much pomade should I use?

Most guys use too much.

For short to medium hair, start with a pea-sized amount. Rub it fully between your palms until it disappears, then apply evenly from back to front. You can always add more — but you can’t take it out once it’s in.

If you’re using clay pomade, less is more. Clay is strong and designed to add texture and hold, especially for thick or stubborn hair. Too much can make hair feel heavy or dry.

With paste pomade, you can use slightly more since it’s lighter and more flexible. It’s ideal for fine to medium hair and natural styles.

Cream pomade spreads the easiest and gives more shine, so it may require a bit more product for control — especially if your hair is longer.

If your hair falls flat during the day, the problem usually isn’t the amount — it’s using the wrong type for your hair. Start small, build gradually, and match the product to your hair density and finish.
