Your hair type matters more than your ethnicity — but certain hair patterns are more common in different backgrounds.
If you have thick, straight, coarse hair (common in many Asian men), lightweight products often collapse under the weight of your hair. A strong-hold clay or paste pomade works best. Clay adds texture and lift. Paste gives control without stiffness.
If you have fine or soft straight hair (common in many white men), heavy pomades can weigh your hair down and make it look greasy. A cream pomade or lightweight paste gives natural hold and movement without flattening.
If you have thick, wavy, or curly hair (common in many Latino and Mediterranean men), look for a medium-to-strong paste or clay to control volume and define texture without frizz.
If you have coily or tightly textured hair (common in many Black men), traditional matte clays may feel too dry. A cream pomade with moisture or a light paste works better for definition and flexibility.
The real rule:
The thicker and denser your hair, the stronger the hold you need.
The finer your hair, the lighter the product should be.
